THE EGG, THE STARE & THE JIGSAW

In times of isolation the biological clock gets interrupted, are we aware of this?

The human brain is equipped to track time. The suprachiasmatic nuclei of the brain is the region responsible for daily or circadian rhythms. Chemicals that excite neurons so they fire more quickly than normal speed up time, while decreased neuron firing slows down time perception.

When time seems to speed up, the brain distinguishes more events within an interval. In this respect, time truly does seem to fly when one is having fun.

Time seems to slow down during emergencies or danger. The brain doesn't actually speed up, but the amygdala becomes more active. The amygdala is the region of the brain that makes memories. As more memories form, time seems drawn out.

"Time can be considered to be the fourth dimension of reality, used to describe events in three-dimensional space. It is not something we can see, touch, or taste, but we can measure its passage."

Why does our biological clock function differently in times of self isolation?

The interrupted biological clock also known as circadian rhythm is comparable with the condition known as jet lag, with its associated symptoms of fatigue, disorientation, and insomnia. Our subconscious mind gets the same triggers in a long time of isolation as a jet lag.

"

CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS

ARE ADJUSTED

TO

THE

LOCAL ENVIRONMENT"

How to perceive time and make the subconscious conscious about the interrupted circadian rhythm?

SIT

LOOK

ENDURE

The reinterpretation of time might be re appropriated by embracing time and valuing it. By using or neglecting the given time it will become visible. This visibility or transparency so to say creates an awareness. By being aware of time and the passing of the pace that it transcends, the mind becomes conscious once again.

One hour, sixty minutes, thirty-six hundred seconds.

Endurance is the state of undergoing. To re appreciate time I chose a time frame of one exact hour. What can one do in this sixty minutes and how does it pass. Will it pass differently when different actions are executed.

THE EGG.

THE STARE.

THE JIGSAW.

the first experiment I did was sitting still in front of the camera and try to move as little as possible. I wanted to experience what time is like when you don't do anything at all and just focus on the passing of time and endure it. Time passes slowly when theres nothing else to keep your mind occupied or distracted. If compared to a busy action time passes differently, you're not so focussed on the passing of time itself but more the actions that are being executed. The sitting could be seen as a base, the red thread through the void of time.

THE JIGSAW

In total I did three experiments and documented them. All three had an time frame of exactly one hour. The outcome is the passing of time and how this affects the given subject. The subjects being me, an egg and a jigsaw. How will one hour of baking an egg affect its well being and how does time pass. The same concept goes for the jigsaw. What happens with the given object/subject?

THE STARE

THE EGG

The fourth subject. actually there's an fourth subject thats probably the most important of them all, its the person that reading this right now, the person that is about to watch three video's if he/she is feeling like killing a few hours.

Maybe you are asking yourself the question, Why is the viewer the most important subject in all of this. The answer is pretty simple, I could talk all day about how the experiments that I have done affect me and how time feels different but why would you care about that right? It's not about me but about the passing of time.

If you are up for watching three hours of video I want you, the viewer to really feel the time in these video's, you already know how I experienced them but you as a viewer that's just watching the screen, How does it make you feel? Does it feel like the egg goes way slower than the jigsaw or is it the other way around?

Feel the time and the passing of it.
